Etihad Airways has marked a historic year, achieving unprecedented milestones and solidifying its position as a global aviation leader.
With record-breaking passenger numbers, fleet expansion, and soaring customer satisfaction, the airline is on an extraordinary upward trajectory.
Etihad Airways: Records Broken
According to Antonoaldo Neves, Etihad’s Chief Executive Officer, the past 12 months have been transformative. “Etihad is flying high, breaking records, and reaching new milestones at an incredible pace,” Neves said.
“After a record-breaking first quarter with a AED 685 million profit and our highest-ever customer satisfaction scores, we’ve welcomed over 20 million passengers in a single year for the first time in our history.”
This remarkable achievement highlights Etihad’s rapid growth. In just two and a half years, the airline has doubled its annual passenger numbers from 10 million to 20 million.
This surge is fueled by increasing demand, an expanding global network, and a clear strategic vision. “We’re the only airline in the region growing at this pace, and we’re not slowing down,” Neves added. “2025 is shaping up to be our biggest year yet.”
Marking the 20 Million Passenger Milestone
To celebrate the milestone of flying 20 million passengers, Etihad surprised a lucky couple, Mr. and Mrs. Chopra, traveling from New Delhi to Toronto to visit their daughters.
Their journey began with a delightful upgrade to lie-flat Business Class seats on an Airbus A350 from New Delhi to Abu Dhabi.
“We’ve never traveled in Business or First Class before,” Mr. Chopra exclaimed. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience!”
Upon arriving at Zayed International Airport, the couple received another surprise: an upgrade to Etihad Guest’s Gold tier status at the luxurious First Lounge, presented by Mark Potter, Managing Director of Etihad Guest.
The highlight of their trip came when they were gifted an upgrade to The Residence, Etihad’s exclusive three-room suite in the sky, on their A380 flight to Toronto.
“This is unforgettable! We feel like celebrities,” the couple shared as they were welcomed aboard by the crew.

Expanding Fleet and New Innovations
Etihad’s growth extends beyond passenger numbers. The airline recently added three new aircraft to its fleet, bringing the total to over 100.
This includes the return of its seventh Airbus A380, a new Boeing B787-9 flown by an all-Emirati crew, and the first of three Airbus A350-1000s delivered on July 18.
With one of the youngest fleets in the industry, Etihad continues to invest in cutting-edge aircraft to meet growing demand.
Looking ahead, Etihad will welcome 18 additional aircraft in 2025, including the new A321LR fleet, set to enter service on August 1.
These aircraft will feature First Suites, fully lie-flat Business seats, 4K screens, and high-speed Wi-Fi across all cabins, ensuring passengers stay connected with messaging, calls, and streaming while in flight.
Earlier this year, Etihad also ordered 28 wide-body Boeing aircraft to enhance connectivity, operational efficiency, and guest experience.

A Growing Global Network
Etihad’s ambition is evident in its expanding network. The airline recently announced seven new destinations, bringing the total to 27 new routes added in 2025.
By year-end, Etihad will serve nearly 90 destinations worldwide, leveraging its strategic location in Abu Dhabi to connect Europe and Asia.
This expansion aligns with the airline’s goal to boost tourism and economic growth in Abu Dhabi, positioning the city as a premier global gateway.

A Vision for the Future
Etihad’s achievements are a testament to its bold seven-year growth plan, which aims to serve over 125 destinations. It plans to operate a fleet of more than 170 aircraft, and carry 38 million passengers annually by 2030.
With rapid growth in every area—passenger numbers, fleet size, and network reach—Etihad is on track to surpass these targets.
The airline’s success reflects Abu Dhabi’s thriving aviation sector, which continues to demonstrate robust growth and strategic momentum.
As Neves emphasized, “Our growth is driven by demand and a focus on customer satisfaction.”
Six months in, 2025 is already proving to be a landmark year for the airline. Etihad Airways shows no sign of slowing down as yet, with momentum continuing.
