Israel Aerospace Industries Achieves Historic Boeing 777 Freighter Conversion

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), a global leader in aircraft passenger-to-freighter (P2F) conversions, has marked an important milestone.

After a year-long program, IAI successfully converted a Boeing B777-300ER passenger aircraft into a freighter.

This earned the world’s first Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Civil Aviation Authority of Israel (CAAI).

This achievement marks a significant moment, positioning the B777-300ERSF as one of the largest cargo aircraft in the world.

With its ability to boost global shipping capacity, speed, and efficiency, this freighter is set to transform the air cargo industry.

B777-300ERSF Conversion Milestone

The newly certified B777-300ERSF offers an impressive payload capacity of 100 tons. It also reduces operating costs, making it a game-changer for the global freighter market.

As demand for air cargo continues to grow, this aircraft meets the industry’s need for larger, more efficient dedicated cargo aircraft.

AerCap, a leading aviation leasing company, is the launch customer for the B777-300ERSF conversion program, while Kalitta Air will serve as the launch operator, bringing this innovative freighter into active service.

Boaz Levy, President and CEO of IAI, expressed pride in the company’s pioneering role. “IAI stands at the forefront of aeronautical technology,” he said.

“Being the first to convert a Boeing 777 into a freighter highlights our expertise and leadership in aircraft conversions.”

“This certification from global aviation authorities reflects our commitment to innovation. It also opens doors to expand our business with top customers worldwide, supporting the growth of global e-commerce through advanced freighter solutions.”

Yaacov Berkovitz, Executive VP and General Manager of IAI’s Aviation Group, was in agreeance. “This milestone is the result of years of dedication, particularly over the past year,” he stated.

“The STC certification for the Boeing 777 freighter conversion sets a new standard in air cargo. With its high payload, large volume, and operational efficiency, this aircraft meets the evolving needs of the cargo industry.”

“We believe it will become the top choice for international operators. Our team’s hard work, along with support from aviation authorities, has made this transformative product a reality.”
