Manchester Airport has embarked on an ambitious multi-million-pound project to modernize Terminal 3, promising a significantly enhanced experience for travellers.
The revamped terminal will feature a sleek new entrance, upgraded security systems, expanded seating, and a variety of new dining and shopping options.
With work already underway, the first phase of this transformation is set to open to the public in early 2026. This will mark a significant milestone in the airport’s ongoing development.
Manchester Airport T3 Makeover
The initial highlight of Terminal 3’s makeover is the introduction of Sporting Chance. This is a spacious 469-seat sports bar offering stunning airfield views and live broadcasts of various sporting events.
Alongside this, travellers can look forward to Terracotta, a new Italian-themed restaurant. Both venues will be managed by HMSHost UK. This is part of the globally recognised Avolta group, known for its expertise in airport hospitality.
These additions aim to elevate the passenger experience with diverse dining options and a vibrant atmosphere.
This Terminal 3 project follows the near completion of a decade-long, £1.3 billion transformation of Terminal 2. This is set to become Manchester Airport’s primary hub, accommodating over 70% of its passengers.
The expanded Terminal 2, which has more than doubled in size, will be fully operational later in 2025.
This development allows the airport to close Terminal 1, freeing up space to enhance Terminal 3. As Terminals 1 and 3 are interconnected, this strategic move will create a more spacious and passenger-friendly environment in Terminal 3.
Previous T2 Upgrade

“The transformation of Terminal 2 has been a resounding success, with travellers loving the modern facilities. Now, we’re excited to focus on Terminal 3. It leverages the space from Terminal 1’s closure to create a superior travel environment. Work is progressing rapidly, and we’re thrilled that passengers will start enjoying the benefits early next year.”
The Terminal 2 overhaul originally began in 2015. It has already welcomed over 30 million passengers since its extension opened in 2021.
The project has introduced a world-class travel experience, featuring new check-in desks, a state-of-the-art security hall, and an expanded departure lounge.
Recent additions include popular retail and dining outlets such as a LEGO® store, Rituals, Pandora, Joe & the Juice, Starbucks, and Upper Crust.
Later in 2025, travellers can expect further openings, including a Chanel boutique, a Fever Tree cocktail and champagne bar, Grindsmith by WH Smith, and the Great Northern Market, a food court offering a variety of street food options.
The final phase of Terminal 2’s transformation includes 13 new flexible aircraft stands and boarding gates, currently under construction.
A new route connecting the security hall to the departure lounge will feature a stunning chandelier installation, a nod to the iconic Venetian chandeliers that adorned Terminal 1 in the 1980s and 1990s.
The terminal extension’s exceptional design has already earned international acclaim, securing a prestigious UNESCO-backed Prix Versailles award in 2024.
